2017 US Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup Champions Crowned

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (June 19, 2017) – The remaining champions were crowned Monday at the 2017 US Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup at the Overland Park Soccer Complex.

Boys and girls teams in the 16U, 17/18U and 18U age groups along with the 15U girls battled in the championship matches on Sunday, while the 13U through 14U age groups along with the 15U boys age group champions were determined on Monday.

The winning teams in the 13U through 17/18U Boys and Girls age groups advance to the 2017 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, which will take place July 12-16 in Auburndale, Fla.

Monday’s Championship Recaps:

13U Boys
VSA 04 Premier (IA) claimed a 3-1 victory over Columbus East FC (OH-S) to take the 13U boys Region II Presidents Cup title. VSA attained a 2-0 lead within the first seven minutes of the game as Emanuel Soto and Mitchell Dickson each scored a goal. Columbus East FC cut into VSA’s lead when Khadar Ali netted a goal in the 55th minute, but VSA’s Kais Sabic sealed the win with a late goal.

13U Girls
Impact GFC (OH-S) defeated 04 Kansas Rush Wichita (KS), 3-0, in Monday’s championship match. After a scoreless first half, Paige Broermann put Impact GFC on the board in the 40th minute. Broermann scored her second goal 12 minutes later, and Ana Garcia added a third goal late in the game for the 3-0 win.

14U Boys
In a high-scoring matchup for the 14U boys title, Sporting Wichita Rojos (KS) came out on top, defeating Chicago Fire Juniors South 03 Pre-Academy (IL), 6-3. While Chicago Fire’s Alexander Gonzalez scored in the 2nd minute of the game, Sporting Wichita’s Calixtro Guttierrez responded with three goals in the first half for a 3-1 lead. In the second half, a back-and-forth scoring spree took place. While Gonzalez cut into Sporting Wichita’s lead, Guttierrez scored once again. Andre Doyle placed the ball in the back of the net for Chicago Fire’s third goal, but Guttierrez scored his fifth goal in the 70th minute, and Zaid Sibaai topped off the win with a goal of his own.

14U Girls
FC United 2003 Predator (IL) took home the 14U girls crown after a 2-0 victory over Ohio Celtic Alliance 03 Black (OH-S). With a scoreless first half, FC United opened up the scoring in the 39th minute as Roxana Zieba finished a goal. Cecilia Troglia added a second goal six minutes later to secure the win.

15U Boys
OHA Stars FC (NE) posted a 3-1 win against Goshen Stars 02 Red (IN). Although it was 0-0 at the half, Noor Hassan put the ball in the back of the net in the 42nd minute. Goshen Stars responded when Eusebio Espinoza Flores scored 10 minutes later. However, Hassan stole the lead back for OHA with another goal, and Abdillah Aden earned a goal for the OHA’s third one.

The five-day event featured over 110 US Youth Soccer teams that had won their respective State Presidents Cup events from the following US Youth Soccer State Associations: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio North, Ohio South, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup offers teams the challenge of experiencing different types of play by competing from state to regional to national levels. The Presidents Cup provides teams with a progressive, competitive experience that highlights competition, camaraderie and community.
