Indiana Soccer Joint Goalkeeper/Field Player Seminars

The Joint Goalkeeper/Striker Seminar is designed to instruct goalkeepers and field players in the nuances of shot-stopping and finishing. By integrating the goalkeepers and field players together we are able to offer a more realistic training environment in the art of shot stopping and finishing. Each seminar will focus on a particular technique with tactical applications that are necessary skills for both goalkeepers and field players. The first part of each seminar will focus on the particular technique in separate environments and then the goalkeepers and field players will come together for the final section to apply the techniques in tactical situations.

The Joint Goalkeeper/Striker Seminar will occur over three training dates in a progressive curriculum that builds upon each other. Players can either sign up for the full 3 week program which includes all 3 seminars (package deal) or can sign up for each seminar individually. Player registration for each seminar will be limited to insure maximum repetitions and touches.

Seminar sessions will include the following technical/tactical themes:

  1. Technical - Shot-Stopping and Finishing
    • This seminar will focus on the technical aspects of shot-stopping and finishing.  For goalkeepers footwork, catching/parrying, diving, and the forward sprawl will all be addressed with special emphasis placed on proper form and technique.  For field players this seminar will focus on the technique of ball striking with various types of finishing techniques and distances as well as addressing reading the goalkeeper, selection of the type of finish necessary to score, and the technical execution under pressure.
  2. Tactical - Crosses/Aerial Balls & Distribution and Crossing/Serves & Finishing
    • This seminar will focus on the nuances of Crosses, Aerial Balls, Distribution and Finishing.  For goalkeepers the tactical concepts of positioning and decision making will be integrarted into the technical aspects of collecting services from both wide areas and higher up the field.  Distribution both out of hands and off the ground will be addressed.  For field players this seminar will focus on the required techniques and tactical awareness related to crossing/serving the ball from wide spaces as well as finishing.  Type of service (driven, flighted, bending), placement in the box, and finishing (striking, volley, heading, placement) will be addressed.
  3. Breakaway Saves and 1v1
    • This seminar focuses on what happens when the goalkeeper and field player finds themselves in a 1v1 situation. For goalkeepers the emphasis will be placed on proper footwork and technique when addressing the attacking player and also on how to commit the attacking player to a course of action that gives the goalkeeper the best opportunity to make the save.  For field players the focus will be on how to set up and identify the correct tactical choice of when to beat the goalkeeper in a 1v1 situation.
