FIRST SOCCER GAME IN THE UNITED STATES

Did you know? Waukesha, Wisconsin was the site of the first soccer game played in the United States under 1863 rules? WYSA celebrates this with a small ceremony at 4:30 pm followed by a short exhibition game Thursday, October 11th at the site, which is at 707 W. College Avenue near Carroll University.  The game itself will involve current and former Carroll University players, some who now play for SC Waukesha. The game will have two 20 minute halves with the first half using the original London rules from 1863 and the second half using modern rules. (Football Association Laws of the Game 1863)

There are also plans to launch a fund raiser to pay for a historical marker to permanently commemorate the site and by the 150 anniversary in 2016. The hope is to raise enough funds to build a full size artificial infill surface soccer field.
