The conference, part of the US – Brazil Joint Accord to Prevent Inequality and Racism (JAPIR), initiated by Presidents Barak Obama  of the US and Dilma Rousef of Brazil  promoted the rights of girls and young women to participate in all spaces of public life.  Hosted by Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, US and Brazilian delegates participated with some the other nations that have become signatories:  Chile, Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay. The event was organized by Brazil’s Secretariat of Women’s Policies, the Brazil Secretariat of Human Rights, and the US Department of State, with additional support of Partners of the Americas, UNICEF, Ashoka, and the International Institute for the Development of Citizenship (IIDAC). It was sponsored by Mary Kay, Inc. and Caixa Economica Federal.

Approximately 80 young women between the ages of 13 and 17 from Brazil, the United States, Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay were selected for their leadership profiles in their schools and communities and their work promoting social development and human rights. Partners of the Americas selected 23 young women from the five regions of the United States and 4 from Indiana represented the Midwest.

Indiana Soccer is pleased to have members that are impacting important and sensitive topics that affect millions of people around the globe.
