June 18-20 Indiana Hosted USYS Midwest Sub-Regional Recap:
Indiana ODP hosted 10 state associations and 150 boys’ and girls’ teams from the 2004-2010 age groups. Each team played a minimum of three matches and games were played across Grand Park. US Youth Soccer had a presence with Tom Condone, Ian Barker, and Mike Dickey in attendance. In addition, there were college scouts from Indiana University to Nebraska Wesleyan and many in between. MLS and MLS Next were all in attendance with multiple scouts present and visible throughout the weekend.
During the event, one add-on was a College Panel discussion moderated by Steve Franklin of Indiana Soccer. The panel consisted of representatives from both men's and women's programs at the D1, D2, D3 levels along with a spokesperson from the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). Over 200 players and family members attended this very educational forum and were happy to have the opportunity to interact with coaches at the conclusion for additional questions.
Indiana Soccer provided some education for the coaches in attendance regarding Indiana Soccer’s Cognisat technology lab. Cognisat consists of four, proven and effective assessment and training tools that when combined provide a complete cognitive overview of the player along with training opportunities to improve the player’s cognitive performance.
It was a great opportunity for the players to represent their states in a state versus state setup. The soccer was good and the atmosphere and support for the players were excellent. Congratulations to the following teams who went 3-0 on the weekend. The 2005 and 2010 Red Girls and 2007, 2008, and 2009 Red Boys.
Below are some comments from our members:
“Scott and I want to thank you and all of the coaches for a wonderful weekend of soccer. We are grateful for the opportunity Shaylin had to learn and grow as a soccer player. It was a great experience for her to play at this level of competition. We also attended the Coach Panel on Saturday - thank you for taking the time to provide this education for families. It was good for Shaylin to hear firsthand what she can start doing now that will help her prepare for the future.”
“Jake had an awesome time all season with ODP and was a tremendous experience for him! The Sub-Regional Tournament over the weekend was so well organized and Coached, that Jakey did not want the weekend to end! He had so much fun with his 2008 -ODP Teammates and Coaches, he is sad that this positive/growth experience has come to an end.”
“Thanks so much for a great experience for Olivia during her first ODP experience. She learned a lot, made new friends and had fun! It has been a great help to encourage her continued improvement and her hopes of playing in college. Thanks for your time with the girls".
