Indiana Soccer is Partnering With Schools In Zimbabwe To Provide a “First of its Kind”, Positive Esports Experiences For Underserved Children.
Indiana Soccer is partnering with schools in Zimbabwe to give underserved children unique access to the world of esports. We need your help to collect working and gently used/new Xbox 360 or Xbox One (S or X) consoles that will be shipped to Zimbabwe. Our strategic goal is to set up mini-esports labs at the school level that will give underserved children access to esports gaming including but not limited to EA FIFA esports. An esports lab of 10 - 15 consoles can serve a school population of more than 500 children that take 45 - 60 minute turns to access the gaming center. If you have older or newer versions of video games, please consider donating those also.
Unlike children here in the USA, the majority of children in Zimbabwe & across Africa do not have the privilege of playing & enjoying esports largely due to economic hardships & poverty.
At Indiana Soccer we see this as a unique opportunity for our children here in the USA to become global game-changers by repurposing old gaming consoles that are no longer used in our family homes. Donating gaming gear will make a difference in other children’s lives that have never interacted with esports and provide a generational impact for years to come.
We are also asking that as you donate a console, you kindly consider making a small financial gift that will go towards shipping the collected gaming consoles. The cost of shipping and clearing a single Xbox 360/Xbox One console is ranges between $70.00 - $80.00. If you happen not to have a console and still want to get involved in this great cause, you are more than welcome to make a financial donation of your choice. Please consider making this a family gift, allowing all of the family to participate. Better yet, you & your club could turn this into a Club Console Collection Drive - Africa & invite other families to participate in a fun & worthy cause. 100% of your gift will go to support this initiative. No gift is too small for this cause.
Once your club has collected the gaming consoles, please contact Gus Chikamba to schedule a pick-up from the club location. If you are not able to participate in the club drive & still have a console for donation, Gus is available to pick-up your gift from your porch. You may contact Gus at gus@soccerindiana.org. Our initial goal is to collect & ship to Zimbabwe as many consoles beginning of October 2020.
Helping set up mini-esports labs in schools accelerates self-esteem development needed to overcome social barriers that inhibit children from reaching their full potential in life. It also creates a fun, safe & controlled environment where kids stretch their brain bandwidth beyond expectations. While the majority of the esports labs will operate off-line due to limited internet access, getting kids to interact with esports at an early age puts them on a success trajectory in a variety of ways including but not limited to:
- Cognitive & Social Development,
- Collegiate Scholarships
- Academic Excellence
- Problem Solving Skills
- Future Job Market
- Strategic Thinking
