The Monrovia Youth Soccer Festival, held each year as a celebration of the sport, once again brought together families, coaches, and players for a morning filled with energy, learning, and fun. With a mission to engage and connect the community through the joy of soccer, the festival has become a highlight for local youth, offering both developmental opportunities and a welcoming environment for new players to experience the game.
This year’s event was made even more special with the involvement of Indiana Soccer’s Director of Competition, George Perry, and Director of Coaching Education, Steve Franklin, who joined in to support and inspire participants. Their presence underscored Indiana Soccer’s vision of “Empowering Lives Through Soccer” by ensuring grassroots events like this have leadership support, guidance, and encouragement.
“Outstanding opportunity to work with community leadership, volunteers, and players in enhancing their soccer environments and offering guidance towards best practices. It’s obvious that the passion for the game and the opportunity to play, make friends, and learn a nugget or two is prevalent. All George and I did was give them some insight into meeting the needs of the players and making things player-centric. To say it was a blast would be an understatement. “Steve Franklin – Director of Coaching Education
Throughout the morning, young players rotated through fun, soccer-related activities designed to spark excitement and skill development. From recreational games to small-sided scrimmages and creative drills using cones, ladders, and skill challenges, the fields were alive with laughter, competition, and learning. Coaches also benefited from hands-on mentorship, with Franklin providing practical coaching insights to help create a positive and player-centered environment.
Commissioner Perry engaged with families and volunteers, emphasizing the importance of community-driven events in building the foundation for long-term growth of the game.
“It was great to see all the players, families, coaches, and administrators of Monrovia Youth Soccer come together for such a positive kick-off event for their fall soccer program. This is a 100% volunteer organization, and it is clear that the number one objective is to have a program that will benefit the youth of their community. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this event.” George Perry – Director of Competition
