It was a picture-perfect day in Southern Indiana as coaches from across the region gathered for the first in-person meeting of the U.S. Soccer National D License Course, hosted by Southern Indiana United. With sunny skies, energetic youth players, and a dedicated group of student-coaches, the event set a high standard for what’s to come throughout the course.
Held at Southern Indiana United’s home fields, the session focused on creating a positive learning environment while giving coaches a chance to apply course principles in real-time with youth players. From structured small-sided activities to guided reflection, every moment was built around growth and collaboration.
“It was inspiring to see the energy and commitment from this group,” said one of the course instructors. “The coaches came ready to engage, ask questions, and challenge themselves—all with the shared goal of improving for their players.”
Youth players from Southern Indiana United brought an extra spark to the day, providing live scenarios for coaches to practice session design, communication, and player-centered coaching methods. Their enthusiasm and focus helped reinforce why coach education is so critical to the development of the game.
Throughout the day, coaches explored how to:
✅ Foster player decision-making
✅ Create game-like environments
✅ Deliver guided, age-appropriate feedback
✅ Reflect and adapt in real-time
The strong turnout, vibrant setting, and passionate participants made this first in-person meeting a huge success. As the course continues, we look forward to seeing how these student-coaches grow both individually and collectively as leaders in their clubs and communities.
A big thank you to Southern Indiana United for being incredible hosts, and to all the youth players and families who supported the session. The future of the game is in great hands!
