Update on Player Age Grouping Dates
Last year, an announcement was made establishing September 1 – August 31 as the new age grouping cycle. However, the change prompted significant feedback from member families, coaches, club leaders, and state associations.
In response, US Youth Soccer, AYSO, and US Club Soccer revisited the decision. After careful consideration, including data analysis and expert input, a revised age grouping cycle has been approved.
What’s Changing
- New Age Grouping Cycle:
- August 1 – July 31
- (replacing the previously announced September 1 – August 31 cycle)
Effective Date
- Starting with the 2026–27 season/registration year

- Coaches and club leaders
- State associations
- Guided by data analysis and expert recommendations
- Designed to better align player groupings with school-grade peers
