|Congratulations To All The Participants & Champions - Indiana Soccer eCup
After two days of competition, nearly 400 players from all across the state of Indiana were narrowed down to our first four official Indiana Soccer eCup Champions! Our diverse field of participants included players from as far North as Goshen and as far south as Seymour, and everywhere in between.
Representing just the first of many future Indiana Esports events, our first batch of competitors showed us the good sportsmanship, kindness, and competitive fire that we all aim to instill in our players and we could not be more proud to be represented by our first four Champions. There will be more announcements to come for our follow up leagues, tournaments, and events this summer and beyond.
In order to accommodate more players and give a fuller experience, the tournament was opened the second day and the format adjusted so all players could return and play. All players who attempted to participate in Friday's event received a pass into Saturday’s event as well. Those that performed well on Friday, were weighted into seeding for the tournament.
The tournament was a world cup style format. Players were grouped into two age categories: 13 - 15 years of age and 16 - 19 years of age. All players, both male and female, were grouped by age only. Tournament participation was done using an Xbox One or Play Station 4. Players that play on an Xbox One, were matched against players also using an Xbox One. Players that play on a Play Station 4, were matched against opponents also using a Play Station 4.
"Last weekend the inaugural Indiana eCup was played. Over half of the Indiana Soccer member clubs were represented – huge participation for a first of its kind", stated Dave Guthrie, Indiana Soccer’s executive director. "The players had fun; they demonstrated their skills and confirmed their appetite for more". Guthrie also stated that Indiana’s is considering an expanded esport format and will be announcing these plans so please stay tuned. If you have thoughts or ideas on esports formatting etc., please contact Gus at email@example.com”
