Indiana Futsal Community Bands Together Following Hurricane Maria

Following the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria last October, members of the Indiana futsal community came together to raise funds to help displaced members of the Puerto Rican population. Partnering with the island’s soccer team, Puerto Rico United, Indianapolis futsal fans Bianca Velez, Bianca Gerena, and Justin Becht helped organize a spur of the moment futsal tournament.
The tournament took place at Arsenal Technical High School in the near east side of Indianapolis. It provided a fun, competitive atmosphere for adult and youth players alike. Ten adult futsal teams from around the state of Indiana took part in the Puerto Rico United tournament and four youth futsal teams from around Indianapolis competed as well. Among the youth teams was South Central Soccer Alliance, a traveling soccer league who made the trip from Center Grove to support the cause.
In all, the futsal community had a fun day raising money for a great cause. The tournament resulted in $500 raised to help provide relief for displaced residents of Puerto Rico.
