RISK MITIGATION

The identification and mitigation of threats is essential to the long-term health and welfare of any organization.  The process of identifying and mitigating these threats is referred to as “risk management”.

Risk management not only addresses the health and welfare of the organization, i.e. financial policies, but more importantly, addresses the health and welfare of the persons served.

Risk management includes auditing the facility, including goal safety, parking lot safety, etc. to insuring the organization has appropriate operational policies i.e., inclement weather policies etc.

EDUCATION STAR

Education is the basis for change/improvement.  All aspects of a vibrant organization should be exposed to education i.e. board orientation, learning non-profit best practices, volunteer education etc.

Education should be employed to improve the organization’s effectiveness at delivering services i.e., coaching education, parent engagement/education, board education etc

ALIGNMENT STAR

There is value in autonomy and having the flexibility to respond to the needs of the local market.  However, there is real strength in aligning and coalescing around shared principles with others that share the same overall purpose/mission.

A prerequisite to obtain the alignment star for member organizations will be to support the stated purpose/mission of Indiana Soccer and to adopt Indiana Soccer’s tools and methods where preferred tools and methods fit the member organization.

COMMUNICATION & MARKETING

Communication is the lifeblood of non-profit organizations; especially those that are service organizations.  Marketing is a specific use of communication.

Member organizations seeking to obtain the communication/marketing star will demonstrate the integrated and effective use of digital communication tools, i.e. website, social media platforms, app(s) etc.

HONORABLE GOVERNANCE

The success of any organization is dependent upon good leadership. A more comprehensive term for good leadership is Honorable Governance.

Non-Profit organizations, recognized as public trusts and governed by trustees, are particularly dependent upon the quality of the people elected to serve as trustees (board members).

It is imperative that non-profit organizations, in order to properly honor and fulfill the trust bestowed upon it by the public, should purposefully populate its board of directors with dedicated, competent, and honorable leadership capable of effectively stewarding the resources of the organization to effectively accomplish the organization’s stated purpose.

The initial step, for a participating member organization toward earning the Honorable Governance Star, is to establish a process for identifying, selecting, orienting, and educating dedicated, competent, and honorable leadership.
