Canterbury High School, Fort Wayne – Saturday, December 2nd, 2023, Indiana Futsal hosted another successful Futsal-For-All Workshop for Physical Education teachers at Canterbury High School in Fort Wayne on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023.
More than two dozen physical education teachers from across Ft Wayne attended the futsal training program facilitated by Steve Franklin, Indiana Soccer Director of Education together with Justin Becht, Indiana Futsal Director. Huge thanks to Gregory A Mauch and the Canterbury FC boys for helping make the event a success.
“Futsal for All is a program created by Indiana Soccer and Indiana Futsal to provide access to the game of futsal for all school-aged youth in schools across Indiana. Futsal is an easy-to-learn fast-paced version of soccer played on a hard surface, usually a basketball court, with a low-bounce ball and can be played indoors or outdoors. The goal is to implement futsal in the Physical Education class to keep kids active as well as provide the opportunity of an after-school program” stated Gregory Mauch.
To date, Indiana Futsal-For-All has impacted 148,101 students in 266 schools as well as close to 300 physical education teachers who have received Grassroots Futsal License.
“It has been a privilege to share the game of futsal with over 100 teachers from 102 different schools across four districts in the Fort Wayne area. The enthusiasm from both the participants and the local futsal players was obvious throughout the course. There are a lot of great educators who are passionate about positive youth development and healthy activities. We are honored to be given the time and space to share this beautiful game with them”, Justin Becht, Indiana Futsal Director.
To implement the program, PE teachers, volunteers, coaches, or any other staff member interested would participate in a three-hour US Futsal Grassroots License course led by Indiana Soccer Director of Education Steve Franklin. The course qualifies for 3 Professional Growth Points for all attendees.
Upon completion of the course, each teacher will receive a pair of portable futsal goals and a bag of futsal balls at no cost.
This is what Dave Guthrie, Indiana Soccer Executive Director had to say about the Indiana Futsal For All program.
“The World’s Game comes in many forms. Futsal is one form that is a great fit for “in-school” implementation. The participants experience the benefits of being cognitively, as well as physically stimulated. John Ratey, the author of “Spark” reveals that when a child is physically fit, they are also cognitively fit.”
“Futsal is a fun way for students to enjoy becoming physically and cognitively fit. It is the goal of Indiana Soccer to assist each student-serving organization in the state of Indiana, with the opportunity to learn and leverage the game of Futsal to support the physical and mental development of students.”
