Indiana Soccer, in partnership with Carmel FC, hosted a series of US Soccer Grassroots Soccer coaching licenses. After a 90-minute introduction webinar that educated coaches on age-specific player characteristics and stages of development, coaches were taught the methodology used to assist players in development specifically to their age-pay group: 7v7 (9U-10U); 9v9 (11U-12U) and the 11v11 play format (13+ years old).
The field sessions took place at the Badger Soccer Fields at the Carmel Dad’s Club, with the 7v7 model meeting Tuesday, Sept. 22nd; the 9v9 model meeting Sept. 24th and the 11v11 play format model running Sept. 29th. George Perry and Steve Franklin led the Carmel FC-based players in their respective player formats.
“Grassroots courses offer novice, as well as experienced coaches, the opportunity to learn more about the behaviors and characteristics of the players they coach, as well as the player development framework for their specific age group”, stated Indiana Director of Coaching Education Steve Franklin. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn, discuss and then apply best practices in player development.”
These In-Person Courses include a four-hour course that builds on the principles covered in U.S. Soccer’s Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module. Specifically, coaches will learn more about U.S. Soccer’s Grassroots Coaching Education Philosophy, Play-Practice-Play Methodology, the Tasks of a Coach, and the characteristics of players aged in the three play formats.
